I wanted to have an item that I built with my dad, that I would have for forever. Something that we could build together. I came up with the idea to make a bed frame. In our 12 years that I've been with my husband, we haven't had a bed frame - I know, crazy! So my dad and I started designing. I wanted something simple and beautiful, and he found this amazing design by a Japanese designer. The headboard, footboard and side panels aren't connected to each other with any screws or glue. They are held together by tenons. My dad got the lumber and we started on our project.
Overall it took us 3 months of me going up to Solvang almost every Sunday and working for about half the day (more than that, and we were pooped!)
It was an amazing project, and I'm extremely grateful to my dad for helping me with it. Not only did we build an amazing bed frame that's not going anywhere, but he taught me so much about all the tools, methods, the right way of doing things, how to treat the wood, etc.
Here are the collection of images that we took along the way to document the progress!
